Erma Wray Wingfield, 88, of Dinwiddie County, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025.
Born on August 13, 1937, in Henry County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Hattie Mae and Dewey Wray. Mrs. Wingfield attended Bluefield College before graduating from Radford College, Women's Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.
She began her career as a Home Economics teacher at Midway in Dinwiddie County, where she met her husband, the late Dr. Billy Hillman Wingfield. After raising their family, Mrs. Wingfield returned to school and earned her nursing degree from the Petersburg General Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse until her retirement.
Mrs. Wingfield was a devoted member of Kenwood United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her three children, Leslie Wray Wingfield, Anne Hillman Wingfield-Wilson and her husband, Steven Wilson, and Billie Kay Wingfield; three grandchildren, Courtney Wingfield Wilson Davis and her husband, Ryan Davis, Kathryn Virginia Wingfield, and John Hunter Wingfield; and two great-grandchildren, Payton Kimberly Davis and Alexander Wilson Davis.
A funeral service for Erma will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Trinity Community Methodist Church, 4814 Courthouse Road, Church Road, VA 23833, where Erma will receive a tribute for her dedication to her career by the Central Virginia Nurses Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at 10:00 a.m., at the church.
