Elizabeth "Betty" McGee Hopper

April 17, 1939 — March 15, 2026

Chester, Virginia

Elizabeth "Betty" McGee Hopper, 86, of Chester, VA, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Front Royal, VA, she was the daughter of the late John Whitfield McGee, Sr. and Elizabeth Clary McGee. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Wendell M. Hopper; and brother, Thomas A. McGee.

She is survived by her daughter, Michelle D. Bennett and husband, Matthew; her beloved grandchildren, Isabella N. Bennett and Maximillian S. Bennett; brother, John W. McGee, Jr.; numerous cousins; dear friend, Carol C. Tillar; as well as many other extended family members.

Betty was a 1958 graduate of Thomas Dale High School, then went on to work at the former Allied Chemical for over 40 years before retiring. She was a lifelong member of Enon Baptist Church, a member of the Hopewell Women's Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved working in her yard and spending time with her family. Her favorite role in life was that of grandmother. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she loved nothing more than spending time with them. She was always full of energy and lived life to the fullest. She never met a stranger and could liven up a room with her laughter and energy.

The family would like to thank the medical staff of Tri-Cities and Chippenham hospitals, and Trinity Hospice for their loving care.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with Dr. Doug Echols officiating. Visitation with friends and family will follow until 8:00 pm.
