Elizabeth Marlene Carter

December 2, 1941 — September 10, 2024

Elizabeth Marlene Carter, 82, of Chester, VA, passed away on September 10, 2024. Marlene was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Douglas and Helena Schmenner. She is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Doug Schmenner.

Marlene was a graduate of Western High School in Baltimore and Bard Avon Secretarial College. She spent many years working as a legal secretary in both Maryland and California. Marlene excelled in her career and enjoyed her work immensely. She was a proud member of the Xi Psi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Marlene was a loving mother, nana, and wife. She is greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marlene is survived by her loving husband, Richard Carter; three daughters, Kelly Shumate (Dave), Kimi Vogeleer, and M'Lissa Heller (Steve); six grandchildren, Remington Adams, Jaime Heller, Storm Adams, Brighton Jenkins, Alex Heller, and Kyler Jenkins; and a great-grandson, to be born in December, Cairo Christensen.

A funeral service for Marlene will be held at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, on Monday, September 23, 2024, at 2:00pm, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, at 1:00pm.
