Elbert Vernon Mabe, Jr., 84 of Prince George passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015. He was the son of the late Elbert Vernon Mabe, Sr. and Maggie Barker Mabe; and was the last of their 12 surviving children. He was born on October 1, 1930 in Washington County, VA next to Bristol, TN. Elbert graduated from Blountville High School, in Blountville, TN in 1948. Elbert was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Permelia “Millie” Tatum Mabe; and his son-in-law, Bill Zeiner. He is loved and survived by his daughter, Connie Mabe Felts; son-in-law, Charles Felts, Sr.; and daughter Barbara Mabe Zeiner. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Charles Felts, Jr., Lisa Mabry Felts, Ken Felts, Mark Zeiner, Brad Zeiner, and Krystal Zeiner and their families. He was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren. Elbert had lived in the Hopewell and Prince George area since 1948. He served two years in the Army and Air Force. He also served for twenty years in the U.S Army Reserves and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1979. He worked at Allied Signal, Firestone Fibers Company, and American General Life. After he retired in 1996, he went to work part time at the Hopewell Public Scales, Gould Funeral Home, and J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Elbert was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Hopewell where he served as a deacon and usher. He loved to greet and welcome people at the door. He was a proud member of the Masonic Order for 51 years. He served as master of the Hopewell Dupont Lodge #289 AF&AM in 1972 and Prince George Lodge #115 AF&AM in 1982. He served as District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District 29, Grand Lodge of VA in 2000. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home; with a Masonic service to be held at 6pm. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the funeral home with interment to follow in Bermuda Memorial Park. Condolences may be registered at
