Mark Lester Lasky

Dr. Mark L. Lasky passed into the hands of God on Friday, June 5, 2026. Born in Irvington, NJ, he spent his childhood in North Arlington, later moving to Fords, NJ, as a teenager.

He received a B.S. in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1969 and his Masters in Biology from Seton Hall University in 1972. In 1975, he received his medical degree from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then began a one year internship at Memorial General Hospital, Union, NJ, where he met his wife, Helen, who was a nurse there.

In 1976, he joined Fords Family Practice, which later merged with Avenel-Iselin Medical Group.

Fords was a very active practice, with Dr. Lasky usually seeing at least 45 patients a day, and often more. He treated different generations of the same family and, no matter how busy, would always make time for a parent with a sick child.

He had a wonderful "bedside manner," always kind, calm, and reassuring. When he retired in 2005, after almost 30 years, one patient wrote to him, "You are much more than a doctor to us. You have been our friend, our confidant, and the one person we have always known we could trust." Another patient also wrote, "You were more than a doctor. You are a wonderful man, a person with a caring soul and spirit. All these years you have been kind and loving, always showing love and compassion to everyone."

Dr. Lasky felt that people in the healthcare field were all "working for the Big Guy," taking care of God's creations and doing noble work. He loved taking care of people.

Even after retiring and moving to Chester, VA, in 2005, he felt he had more to give. In 2007, he began serving as a Medical Officer in the Active Duty Clinic at Kenner Army Health Clinic at Ft. Lee. He liked to say he was treating warriors. One patient said that, in 23 years in the Army, Dr. Lasky surpassed all his preceding doctors. After serving there for 9 years, he retired again in 2016, but continued to offer medical advice to family and friends.

In his spare time, Mark and Helen liked to go antique shopping, always looking for new "old faces" to add to their collection of 17th and 18th century portraits.

For a number of years, they owned a vacation home in the little town of Ocean Shores, on the Pacific coast of Washington state. Mark said it was a different world, with views of Gray's Harbor and the Olympic mountains from their home. From their bedroom window they could see Mt. Rainier silhouetted against the sunrise.

A neighbor took Mark out salmon fishing, and despite getting very seasick, Mark did manage to catch a decent sized salmon, of which he was very proud.

At home, when not working in the office or in his yard, Mark indulged his passion for nice cars. Having loved cars since he was a teenager, he treated himself to a collection of fine cars over the years, having owned a Ferrari, a Porsche, Jaguars and, finally, his BMWs. He ordered so many parts and supplies online, that Helen called him "Mr. Car Parts". Mark also loved to tinker with things, whether in the garage, in his yard, or around the house. He showed a dogged determination to figure out and fix anything that wasn't working quite right.

That perseverance and persistence helped him get through the long years of education and training to become a doctor, where his analytical and problem solving skills were so invaluable.

As a young physician, Dr. Lasky promised God that he would take care of anyone who came to him for help, and asked that God just keep him healthy long enough to do that. Dr. Lasky kept that promise for over 50 years. He loved medicine, loved helping others, and used the talents God gave him in the service of others. He had a noble life, very well lived.

Mark is survived by his wife, Helen; his brother, Howard (Susan); his nieces, Elizabeth Brackins and Aubrey Waddell; and his nephews, Vincent Colucci, William Bagnell, and Adam, Jonathan, Matthew, Joseph and James Lasky.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A visitation will take place the afternoon prior from 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. at the funeral home. Dr. Lasky will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park following the funeral service.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to Tunnel to Towers Foundation in memory of Dr. Lasky.
