Douglas Scott Burton, 65, of Petersburg, VA, went to be with the Lord on July 7, 2026. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Burton Castine; sister, Theresa Burton Kuttenkuler (Joe); brother, Michael Christopher Burton (Kelly); four nephews, Evan Ball, Brandon Kuttenkuler, Benjamin Kuttenkuler and Jack Burton; two grandnephews and one grandniece. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Melvin Cosby Burton, Jr.
Scott was raised in Bon Air, VA and graduated from Manchester High School in 1980. He attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. As a man of many talents, he was a long-time property manager, primarily in Petersburg and worked for many years at Joyner Paint and Frame Company after owning his own picture framing business in Chesterfield. He had creative and artistic gifts and was proudly left-handed. Scott could do anything with duct tape and a circular saw and was a firm believer that one man's trash was a treasure to be repurposed in one of his renovation projects. He preferred being outdoors enjoying hunting, fishing, working on and cruising in his boats around the Chesapeake Bay. Scott had numerous friends and held the closest ones dear, however no one could match the relationship he had with his beloved dogs. He cared deeply for his Petersburg community and his marina family in Urbanna, VA. He loved music, superheroes and collecting comic books. Further channeling his creative talents, Scott and two close friends in Urbanna created a pirate-themed board game for which a patent is pending.
Scott truly lived the life of a pirate in a simple fashion, yet to the fullest as per his motto, frequently enjoying laughs and a cold beverage with friends and family. He will be missed tremendously.
