Dorothy S. Persinger

Dorothy S. Persinger, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born December 28, 1935, she was the seventh of eight children born to the late James and Gilberta Reese and was raised in South Hill, Virginia. 

Dorothy lived a full and meaningful life marked by hard work, devotion, and love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of many years, James H. Persinger, Jr.; her brothers, Albert, James, and Thomas Reese; and two sisters, Elsie Parrish and Jean Stansbury. Dorothy retired from Firestone where she was known for her strong work ethic, dedication, and loyalty. 

She leaves behind a loving family who meant the world to her and she to them - daughter, Kathie C. Whitlow (Leo O. Whitlow, Jr.); two grandsons, Jason T. Crouch (Melissa), of Chesterfield and Nathan F. Crouch (Belinda), of Bairnsdale, Australia; and three cherished great-grandchildren, Hollins and Keegan, of Chesterfield and Hudson Crouch, of Australia. She is also survived by two sisters, Margaret Smith, of South Hill, Virginia and Bertha Stables, of Hopewell, Virginia; along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

Dorothy will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and the deep love she had for her family. She had a strong faith and was a long-time member of Broadway Baptist Church. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. 

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 820 West Broadway Avenue, Hopewell, Virginia. 

A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at Broadway Baptist Church, 301 N. 15th Ave, Hopewell, Virginia, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with interment following at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, 11302 Merchants Hope Road, Hopewell, Virginia. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Richmond SPCA in Dorothy's memory.
