Dorothy H. Mcdowell

Dorothy Harrell McDowell, 86, formerly of Hopewell, VA, passed away November 3, 2013 in Burke, VA. She was born in Jarratt, VA and was a long-time member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Hopewell.Mrs. McDowell is survived by two daughters, Kay Mauviel Grobusky of Rock Hill, SC, and Joyce Mauviel Hanline of Burke, VA; son, Edward R. Mauviel, of Hopewell, VA.; five grandchildren, Michael Hanline, Jared Hanline, Erin Grobusky, John Grobusky, Tommy Mauviel; one great-grandson, Lucas Hanline; ten stepchildren; two sisters, Loretta H. Lucy of DeWitt, VA and Elizabeth H. Peck of Wakefield, VA; one brother, Edward W. Harrell.
Mrs. McDowell retired from Fort Lee, VA in 1985 after 30 years of federal service. She was a member of the Dizzy Dames Red Hat Chapter, the Hopewell/Prince George Civitan Club, and an honorary member of the Special Military Active Retired Travelers, Central Atlantic Travelers (SMART CATs) with whom she enjoyed many years of camping and travelling. She was also a member of the Hopewell Women��s Auxiliary of American Legion Post and the Moose Club #1472.A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 3512 Virginia Street, Hopewell, VA with a visitation to begin at 9am. Interment will be in Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Woodlawn Baptist Church Benevolence Fund. Condolences may be registered with www.jtmorriss.com .
