Dorothy Peeples Driskill

May 2, 1923 — November 18, 2025

Dorothy Pearson Driskill, 102½, of Chester, claimed her room in her Father's mansion on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

She was born in Brunswick County, VA, and formerly a resident of Roanoke Rapids, NC, as well as Emporia, Richmond, Monterey, and Spotsylvania, VA. For many years she enjoyed bowling, cooking, crocheting, gardening, reading, and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Russell and Lillie Mae (Chambliss) Pearson, and was the last surviving child of their ten children; her husbands, George M. Winkler, Sr. (26 years), Bennett K. Edwards (14 years), Theadore S. Freeman (10 years), and William B. Driskill, Sr. (9 years); grandson, Carroll (Lane) Phillippe; daughter-in-law, Louise Winkler; son-in-law, Jimmy Davis; and grandson-in-law, Jonathan Klock. She is survived by two sons, George M. Winkler, Jr., (Powhatan, VA) and William D. Winkler and wife, Sandy (Spotsylvania, VA); daughter, Vicky B. Phillippe, (Spotsylvania, VA); and her adopted son, Douglas W. Orebaugh and wife, Linda, (Fairfield, VA); three grandsons, Greg Winkler, Kirk Winkler, and Kristopher Bucher; two granddaughters, Karen Poole and Kimberly Klock; granddaughter-in-law, Tammy Hockman; and seven great-children.

Dot and all of our families were richly blessed by the blended and extended family gained through her marriages. When Dot married Theodore (Ted) Freeman, she was thrilled to gain another daughter, Jean Cauble and granddaughter, Stephanie Cauble (Midlothian, VA). When Dot married William (Bill) Driskill she was likewise thrilled to gain two daughters, Gail Davis (Chesterfield, VA) and Daryl Driskill (Eugene, OR); son, Bill Driskill, Jr. and wife, Sandra (Atlanta, GA); three granddaughters, Kimberly Halliday, Candi Ross, and Lauren Melevin; four grandsons, JW, Brian, Daniel Davis, and Gus Gates; and eighteen great-grandchildren. Dot was overjoyed by all of these wonderful additions to her family.

Dot was a devoted Christian, loving mother, and homemaker. She often said that her proudest achievements in life were all of her children. Her legacy of faith, kindness, love, and strength lives on in her children and their families. She will always be remembered as the matriarch as well as the heart and soul of her family.

A celebration of Dot's life will be held 11:00 AM, on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bon Secours Richmond Health Care Foundation, in memory of Dorothy P. Driskill, https://givebsmh.org.

Immense love and gratitude are extended to Christin, Joey Cimburke and family for their unwavering love, support, and endless hours of spending time with mom and watching her favorite television shows, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Mom looked forward to her 'Christin Days' each week and the home-cooked meals that she and Joey prepared or the surprise meals they picked-up and brought to share with her.

Very special thanks to, Carolyn Newman, Colleen Morrison, Janet Ewen, Marybeth Wheelhouse, and Sue Liese for their friendships that brought Dot incredible joy. To her many Chambliss and Pearson family members, who she dearly loved and with whom she enjoyed talking, reminiscing and visiting. We are truly grateful to Mom's Doctor, Andrew L. Rose and his nurse, Mary-Lee; her primary caregivers, Heaven Rorak and Tara Shepperson; her caring and compassionate Bon Secours Hospice team; Bon Secours Community Hospice House; and The Guest House where mom spent her final weeks.
