Doris Jean Putnam

Doris Jean Putnam, 86, of Hopewell, VA went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord on July 14, 2015. Born in Birmingham, AL she was the daughter of the late, Joseph Irvin and Vista Clearman Harper; and was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Richard “Dick” Putnam. Jean was a retired Hopewell Elementary school teacher with 25 plus years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hopewell. She was an avid bridge player, and loved her Lord, family and friends more than anything. She is survived by her two daughters, Connie Thomas (Rick) and Patty Harrison (Ray); one son Steve Putnam (Diane); grandchildren Rob Patton (Jean), Adam Putnam, Emily Putnam, Megan Pavell (Peter), and Marci Duke (Wesley); great-grandchildren Cameron, Grayson and Hayden Patton, Olivia Pavell and Harrison Duke; and a brother, Joe Harper, Jr. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m on Saturday, at Frist Baptist Church in Hopewell, with the Rev. Darrell Boggs, officiating. Interment will be private.
