Donald Perry Opocensky, 84, baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection on May 30, 2016. Donald passed away at his home. Donald was born in 1931 and raised in Hopewell, one of three children born to his parents. He was a 1950 graduate of Hopewell High School. Donald served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict, and was honorably discharged. Donald was united in marriage on September 16, 1961 to Margaret Robinson of Richmond. They settled in Hopewell after marrying. Donald graduated from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. Donald worked for several years as a chemistry teacher at Matoaca High School, and then as a chemist for Philip Morris USA, retiring in 1995. Donald's hobbies included house projects, vacationing in St. Augustine, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member at West End Presbyterian Church in Hopewell, as well as a regular patron at Carr Brothers Gathering Place. Donald is survived by his daughters, Courtney Roach (James) of St. Louis, and Summer Kim (Michael) of Las Vegas; a granddaughter, Zoa Roach; a niece, Deborah Carroll of Hopewell; a nephew, Bruce Brockwell (Donna) of Colonial Heights, as well as other extended family. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Opocensky and Emily Rusnak Opocensky Waldron; his wife, Margaret Opocensky; his brother, John Paul; and his sister, Elizabeth Brockwell. Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, June 2 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 3 at the funeral home, with Rev. Eddie Reed presiding.
