David Ward Rodgers, 71, of Chester, VA, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. Born in Waynesboro, VA, he was the son of the late Ward and Helen Rodgers; and was also preceded in death by a sister, Vera "Kinny" Hunt; and three brothers, Jesse, Tommy and Henry Rodgers. David enjoyed traveling and hiking in the mountains, taking photos, reading, telling jokes, and reminiscing and telling stories about his past. He faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corp and was a long-time member of the Church of the Sacred Heart in Prince George, VA. He will be remembered by his family as a loving and devoted husband, dad and BePaw. Mr. Rodgers is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Martha Kolek Rodgers; five children, Eric Dundas, Melissa Romer (Blake), Elizabeth Barkle (Steven), Martha Ann Jenkins (Chris), and David Rodgers II (Amber); nine grandchildren, Meadow, Elijah, Willow, Dillyn, Dustyn, Donovan, Darryn, Emmy, and Nicolas; one brother, Bill Rodgers (Gloria); his faithful companion, Pearl; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Plans for a Memorial Mass will be announced soon.
