David Scott Hinant, Sr., "Red Fox", of Chester, VA, traded the fields of this earth for the eternal hunting grounds - where the morning mist never fades and the game is always plentiful - on July 6, 2026. Born on July 4, 1965, in Colonial Heights, VA, he always said there were fireworks on his birthday! He was the son of the late Norma Rountree Hinant.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Valerie Marshall Hinant; his son, Benjamin James Hinant, and his wife, Lauren, of King and Queen Court House, VA; his son, David Scott Hinant, Jr., of Chester, VA; and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Sadie Olivia Hinant. He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne Keefe, Neil Jones, Frankie Keefe, Stephen Lucy, and Rennis Powers; and his beloved beagle Ruby.
David retired from Philip Morris USA as a machinist in R&D after 36 years of dedicated service. In his spare time, David loved to hunt at his favorite place, Rawlings, VA. He served as the Secretary for the Red Oak Hunt Club, where he was a member for over 40 years. He cherished all of his hunts and could remember exactly when and where every single one took place; he was an avid dog hunter.
David also served as a deacon at Mattaponi Baptist Church. A die-hard Ford man, he truly bled Ford blue! His favorite driver was Bill Elliott, and when Bill retired, David moved right on to Chase. He loved to attend any type of race-short track, asphalt, or dirt - it didn't matter, as long as he could smell racing gas.
The family will receive friends at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The funeral service will be held at Mattaponi Baptist Church, 13466 The Trail, King and Queen C.H., VA 23085, on July 12, 2026 at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Virginia Hunting Dog Alliance at VAHDA.ORG/DONATE.
