Cornelia Anne Scott Brumfield

January 9, 1943 — July 2, 2025

With heavy hearts, we celebrate the life of our beloved Nannie, who left this world surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.

Cornelia Anne Scott Brumfield, 82, of Chesterfield, VA, passed away on July 2, 2025. She was born on January 9, 1943, in Red House, Virginia, to the late William Jones Scott and Annie Margaret Harvey Scott.

Cornelia is survived by her devoted husband, Kenneth Wayne Brumfield; her three daughters, Valerie Anne Brumfield Smith (Timothy), Vanessa Lynn Brumfield Harper (John), and Victoria Leigh Brumfield; her seven grandchildren, Troy Scott Smith (Erin), Nathaniel Paul Smith, Ryan Wayne Lewis (Bronwyn), Christina Faith Harper Flickinger (Deane), John Earl Harper III, Anna Summer Harper Clare (Devlyn), and Victoria Paige Lewis (Corey); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Alexandra, Leigha, Anastasia, SaraMae, Gunner, Harper, Dawsyn, and Hudson. She is also survived by her brother, William Harvey "Pee Wee" Scott (Marie).

She shared 65 beautiful years of marriage with the love of her life, Kenneth Wayne Brumfield, and together they built a legacy of love, faith, and family that will live on through generations. Her brother, Pee Wee, was not just her sibling but also her lifelong best friend. The bond they shared was a constant in her life, they spoke on the phone every single day at the same time, a simple ritual that spoke volumes about the depth of their connection.

Cornelia's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was deeply devoted to her church and found purpose in service, prayer, and community. Her life was a reflection of her deep love for her Lord and Savior, expressed daily through her generosity and unwavering commitment to living a Christ centered life.

She had a love of capturing memories, though, in true Nannie fashion, her camera's battery always seemed to give out right when she was ready to capture a moment. She also had a flair for glitz and glam, always drawn to sparkle and beauty, which matched her vibrant spirit.

Feisty, full of life, and endlessly creative, Cornelia had an adventurous spirit that shone through everything she did. She had an array of hobbies that brought her joy. Painting, crocheting, gardening, reading, and word finding puzzles just to name a few. She had a passion for family lineage and spent years researching our family genealogy and created a family book for both the Brumfield and Scott families dating back hundreds of years. She had an eye for old beauty, never hesitating to pull over on the side of the road to photograph a weathered barn, often trespassing just to get the picture or to collect a discarded glass bottle she could paint.

Above all else, her greatest joy came from her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her world, and there was nothing she wouldn't do to make them feel loved and special.

Some of the most cherished memories we hold close are the moments we shared together: trips with her granddaughters to the nail salon, road trips in her old green Volvo, dinners at Pizza Hut with her grandchildren, watching birds from the porch, and countless sleepovers at her house filled with love, laughter, and warmth.

Cornelia was the steady foundation for her family, a true matriarch whose strength, compassion, and unwavering love shaped the lives of those lucky enough to know her. She left this life exactly how she wanted to: with her family by her side, held close by the same love she so freely gave.

Her memory will live on in each of us, in the stories we share, the traditions we carry forward, and the love that binds us together.
