Colonel (Ret.) Robert (Rob) Davis, Jr., 57, passed away on April 28, 2026, at home with his family by his side. Rob was born on May 22, 1968 in Pompton Plains, NJ to Robert Davis, Sr. and Edith Davis.
Rob was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army in 1991 after completing a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice and the ROTC Program at the University of Delaware. During the span of his career, Rob transitioned from Infantry to Ordinance and finally to Logistics. During this time, he also earned a Master in Procurement and Acquisition Management from Webster University (2002) and a Master of Strategic Studies from the US Army War College (2013).
On July 24, 1993 Rob married Anastasia Demetriou of Nicosia, Cyprus in Wilmington, Delaware. They built a loving family together, raising their three sons at various duty locations including Texas, Louisiana, Kansas, Hawaii, and Korea. They ultimately settled in South Prince George, Virginia, where they made their forever home.
Rob held many command and leadership positions to include Company and Battalion Command. His military service included three combat tours: two in Afghanistan and one in Iraq. Throughout his career, Rob earned numerous awards and decorations, including, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, among others.
Rob retired from active-duty in 2018, after 29 years of service, at the rank of Colonel. Following his retirement, Rob devoted his time to his family, his church, Boy Scouts and his passions, especially farming, hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He loved nothing more than sharing these activities with this children, family, and friends.
Rob was a remarkable individual who did not lead from a position of title. He loved his community deeply, invested his time in people and cared about their growth, happiness and success. He carried this approach forward into retirement through volunteering. He was an active member of St. Elpis Greek Orthodox Church where he was a member of the local chapter of AHEPA and where he also served as Vice President of the Parish Council. He was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts where he held several roles at the local and council level, his most cherished being a Scout Master where he had the privilege to mentor upcoming youth leaders. He continued his education by completing the Small Farmers Program with Virginia State University, where he was also given the opportunity to support other small farmers, including veterans.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Jonn Davis, Sr.; his stepmother, Debbie Davis; and father-in-law, Spyros Demetriou.
He is survived by his wife, Anastasia, of 33 years; his sons, Yanni, Alexander, and Michael; his mother, Edith Davis; brother, Ted Davis (Heidi); uncle, Bill Davis (Andi); mother-in-law, Anna Demetriou; sister-in-law, Maria Ogawa (Terry); brother-in-law, Demetris Demetriou (Katina); step-sisters, Margie Wheeler and Katie Banks; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son, 820 W Broadway Ave, Hopewell, VA 23860.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Elpis Greek Orthodox Church, 107 Memorial Ave, Hopewell, VA 23860.
Interment with full military honors at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Rd, Petersburg, VA 23805.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations be made to St. Elpis Greek Orthodox Church, PO Box 1204, Hopewell, VA 23860.
