Cindy Lou Slaughter Gilliland, of Dinwiddie, Virginia, went to be with her Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with illness on Saturday, August 8, 2026.Cindy was born on July 14, 1961, at Petersburg General Hospital. Cindy went to Dinwiddie Public Schools and graduated from Dinwiddie High in 1978. Cindy adored her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She also had a soft spot for animals. She had always owned a cat until 2023. When her beautiful Poochon "Connor" came into her life, she adored Connor and he would put a smile on her face every day. He was such a joy to her. Cindy loved going out to restaurants with her family. She also loved beach trips with family, and she loved lighthouses. She always wanted to go see new ones. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She always looked forward to going to Christmas Town at Busch Gardens every December with her family.Cindy had a positive impact on lots of people, even people she had never met. She was always so positive and was eternally grateful that she survived many illnesses in the past 5 years. Cindy grew closer to God when she started getting ill. She was so grateful for the care she received from many nurses, doctors, and surgeons. Cindy asked the Lord to save her as a young woman and was baptized at an early age. She was also a past Madam President for the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph L. Slaughter and Shirley B. Slaughter; in-laws, Lloyd and Barbara Gilliland; siblings, Leonard Wayne and Jason Todd Slaughter; and brother-in-law, Andy Wynn. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Charles "Chuck" K. Gilliland; her daughter, Dawn M. Phillips, and her sons, Christopher "Aaron" Phillips and Joshua Phillips; her three sons, Brian "BG" C. Gilliland, and his wife, Lacy, and daughter, Brooklyn N. Gilliland, Kevin W. Gilliland, and Eric J. Gilliland; her sisters, Connie Wynn and Jamie Morini (Timothy); and her brother, Michael Slaughter (Wanda); brother-in-law, Michael Gilliland (Sandy); and sister-in-law, Brenda Fallin; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Cindy was forever grateful no matter the situation. She will be missed by many. The family would also like to thank Virginia Cancer Institute, Johnston-Willis ICU Unit and Rehabilitation Center, and Southside Regional Medical Center for all the care she has received over the last five years.A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. There will be a visitation the evening before, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
