Charles Ray Stokes, 90, of Colonial Heights, VA, and formerly of Greenville, MS, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025. Born in Mississippi, he was the son of the late Carl C. and May Belle Rushing Stokes; and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Catherine Ware Stokes; two grandchildren, Diana Renee Stokes and Charles Franklin "Chuck" Stokes. Mr. Stokes proudly served his country in the United States Army, and retired after 23 years of faithful service. He enjoyed working in his yard, planting flowers and tending to his garden. He was a generous person, who would always go out of his way to help others in need. Mr. Stokes is survived by his dedicated wife, Ahn R. Stokes; three children, Angie Woody and husband, Mike, Danny Stokes, Mark Stokes and wife, Moronda; two step-children, Melissa Hart and Tanya Weir; seven grandchildren, Cara Pantaleo and husband, Chris, April Stokes, Tiffany Stokes, Brandon Woody and wife, Maggie, Emily Ann Stokes, Nicole Weir, and Kailey Weir; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Mortimer Funeral Home, 711 Highway 82 East, Greenville, MS, 38701. Interment with full military honors will follow the service at Hollandale Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family is being served by the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome, or contributions may be made to the American Red Cross in memory of Charles Stokes.
