Charles E. Santilli, Jr., 74, of Prince George County, VA, died May 3, 2025. Born and raised in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Charles E. Santilli, Sr. and Antoinette Marie Rizzo Santilli. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Penelope "Penny" Santilli; daughter, Alicia K. Santilli; son, Charles E. Santilli III and his wife, Samantha; step-son, Anthony Flash; brothers, Paul (Kathy) Santilli and Richard (Linda) Santilli; sister, Sylvia Malloy; nieces, Carla (Pat) Browning, Michele Malloy, and Andrea (Steve) Berte and Caroline (Ben Rodgers) Santilli and Chloe Santilli; nephew, Joseph Santilli; great-nieces and nephews; step-granddaughters, Zora, Maya, and Samara Flash; and a most devoted and beloved grandson, Hunter Santilli.
Charles was a graduate of Bentley University, Waltham, MA, where he earned two degrees: Business Education and Accounting and Finance. He was also a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College.
Charles retired from Civil Service on February 1, 2008, after 30 years of service. From 1998 - 2008, he served as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Resource Management, CASCOM and Fort Lee (now Fort Gregg-Adams), which included the Garrison and tenant activities. During the period June to November 2006, he also served as the Deputy to the Commanding General (DCG), CASCOM and Fort Lee. In 2008, he returned to Fort Lee as a reemployed annuitant working as one of the Command's principle senior advisors. He fully retired in 2018 after a total of 40 years of service. His awards and decorations include: The Army Achievement Award for Civilian Service, the Commander's Award for Civilian Service, the Superior Civilian Service Award, the Meritorious Civilian Service Award, the Department of the Army Exceptional Civilian Service Award, and the General Brehon B. Somervell Award/Medallion of Excellence.
Charles was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling to play various courses with close friends. He coached all ages of baseball, from T-ball to Post 284 American Legion ball, and filled in to coach the Colonial Heights High School varsity baseball team while their coach recovered from an injury. He was always available to help anyone who asked, and many came to him over the years for mentoring, teaching, and encouragement.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 pm, Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or any charity of choice.
