Charles Read Barksdale, Jr.

Charles Read Barksdale, Jr., 76, of Prince George County, Virginia, peacefully departed this world on November 25, 2024. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Reade Barksdale; his granddaughter, Kaydence; and his parents, Charles R. Barksdale, Sr. and Audrey Williams Barksdale.

Charles was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family deeply. Left to honor his memory are his wife of 51 years, Charlotte Barksdale; his daughters, Kathryn Barksdale and Leigh Fleshman (Mark); and his grandchildren, Brendan Ford, Emalee Ford (Ethan), Pierson Fleshman, Bryson Fleshman, and Caroline Fleshman.

A proud graduate of Petersburg High School, Class of 1967, Charles excelled in athletics, serving as Co-Captain of the football team during his senior year. He continued his academic journey at the Virginia Military Institute, graduating in 1971.

Charles dedicated over three decades to education, teaching history, and computer science in Petersburg Public Schools until his retirement in 2005. Known for his love of the outdoors, Charles found joy in fishing, relaxing at Sandbridge Beach, and spending time at the family cabin in Goshen, Virginia, a retreat he built himself, where generations of family shared countless cherished moments.

In his later years, Charles delighted in building and setting up intricate train sets, creating magical scenes for his grandchildren to enjoy. His dedication to his family and his creativity left lasting memories that will be cherished forever.

He will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
