Mr. Cecil Rose was called home to Glory on April 11, 2013, at the age of 101. He was born on June 26, 1911 on a farm in Sussex County, Virginia. His parents were Richard Milton and Mary Anne Bass Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters. He outlived his first wife of forty years, Mary Stephenson Rose, and his second wife of twenty-three years, Bessie Sumner Rose. He is survived by two daughters, Linda Johnson and Margaret Stephens and her husband, Roger. He is also survived by four grandchildren, James Matthew Stephens and wife, Annie, Mary Elizabeth Naugle and husband, Dave, Rebecca Rose Stephens, and John Andrew Stephens; one great-grandchild, James Ezra Stephens. Also left to cherish his memory is Jennifer Leslie, and her daughter Isabelle Collier. Mr. Rose served in the United States Navy during World War II. He is perhaps best remembered as the Manager and President of Hopewell Builder’s Supply Company. He began working there at the age of seventeen and retired fifty-three years later at the age of seventy. His job at Builder’s Supply was one of the greatest joys of his life.
