Cecil E. Modlin III

Cecil E. Modlin III, 87, of Chester, VA, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026. He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil E. Modlin, Jr; and was also preceded in death by a son, Mark Modlin.

Mr. Modlin faithfully served his country for 44 years, having reached the rank of Lt. Col. in both the Air Force and the Air National Guard and was a dedicated member of The Heights Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Mary Anne Modlin; son, Troy E. Modlin; daughter, Penny Bennett; two step-sons, Michael Whitt and Brian Whitt; two step-daughters, Amy Nugent and Robin Whitt Mayo; ten grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
