Catherine Gag, 59, of Richmond, VA, died on Monday, June 8, 2026 at 5:10 a.m., before the sun rose.
She was born and raised in Toway, Gilman, in the state of Yap, a small island located in the region of Micronesia in the Pacific Ocean. She was the daughter of the late Antonia Pinfen and Trinidas Rumayog, and was raised by her late mother and late stepfather, Anthony Dabaw. She graduated from Yap High School and furthered her education at the Job Corp in San Diego, CA. She was the secretary of the Department of Education in Yap.
A loving wife, mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, and friend to many, she moved to the United States in 2019 to help her children raise their kids. After moving in 2019, she was an active member of The Seventh-Day Adventist Church, even being baptized there. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, traveling to different states, reading novels, solving puzzles, scoring top levels in games, listening to old Yapese music and American country music. But more than anything, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and surrounding herself with family.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Gag was preceded in death by her brother, Francis Goray; and her uncle, Felilx Yinug. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, David Tamanyon; son, Justice Tamanyon and wife, Mariana Tamanyon; daughter, Jilda Tamanyon and husband, Arthur Deffmew; daughter, Joslyn Tamanyon; and son, Derek Tamanyon; grandchildren, Abel, Imoni, and Izeiah Tamanyon, and Arseante, Xkyler, and John Deffmew; her remaining siblings, Patrick Sogaw, Galla Gulee, Titus Tamam, Marcellus Falowan, Ignathia Ruwey, and Elias Lam; and her uncle, Gregory Chem.
