Carolyn Overby Parrish

Carolyn Overby Parrish, 91, of Chester, passed away November 21, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, James S. "Bill" Parrish; her parents, Larry and Birdie Overby; and her sister, Jean Joyner. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Dotson and her husband, Joe; her daughter, Kay "Katie" LeRoy and her husband, Phil; beloved grandchildren, Sarah Mitch (Derek), Emily Cline (Jeremiah), and James Whipp (April); and great-grandchildren, Ann Marie, April, Addy Rose, and Styles.

Carolyn was born and raised in Southampton County. Upon graduation from Franklin High School in 1952, she attended Longwood College. After marrying Bill and moving to Richmond, she began her long and fulfilling career as an Executive Secretary at what is now NewMarket Corporation. In addition to the love she had for her family, Carolyn enjoyed a deep passion for Chester Baptist Church, serving in many different roles over the last 68 years.

Carolyn was blessed with an exceptional gift of spreading love and joy to all she encountered, even in the final days of her life. The family wishes to thank all her many caregivers and friends who supported and loved Carolyn over the years.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 3:00 pm, at Chester Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at 2:00 pm, at the church. The burial will be private.
