Carolyn Crump Chappell, 88, of Dinwiddie, Virginia, passed away Sunday morning November 30, 2025, surrounded by family at their home in Carson, Virginia. Carolyn was born on April 25, 1937, in Chester, Virginia, to George Clyde Crump, Sr. and Lena Mebane Crump. Carolyn was married to Arthur Webb "A.W." Chappell, Jr., for 58 years until he passed.
Carolyn was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George Clyde Crump, Jr. and Thomas 'Tommy" Giles Crump; and son-in-law, Dennis F. Hare.
Carolyn is survived by two daughters, Pattie C. Futrell (Wingate) and Susan C. Hare; sister, Nancy C. Jones (Russell); sister-in-law, Marie S. Crump; grandson, James Douglas "Jay" Moore, Jr.; five great-grandchildren, James Douglas "Trey" Moore III, Dixie Lynn Moore, Ryleigh Nichole Moore-Briggs, Aiden William Moore-Briggs, and Dylan Parker Moore-Briggs; plus numerous nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank her faithful caregivers, Vern, Trudy, Angie, Tammy, Mary, and Jean.
Carolyn was a 1956 High School Graduate from Thomas Dale and after marriage to Arthur, became a loving mother and homemaker. Carolyn was also a proud member of Order of the Eastern Star, Stony Creek, Chapter 126, and a member of Carson United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 2 p.m., at Southlawn Memorial Park, South Prince George, VA. The family is being served by the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
