Bruce Allen Miller, MD

March 21, 1957 — December 28, 2024

Bruce Allen Miller, MD, 67, of Hopewell, VA, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024, after a long battle with illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donna Marks Miller and Ronald Edward Miller, MD; and his brother-in-law, Ted D. Lowder. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Ellen Richeson Miller; children, Christopher D. Miller, MD (Christine), Katherine M. Price, MD (Chad), and Rebecca M. Forrest, MD (Joe); sister, Diane M. Lowder; brother, David Miller, MD (Christina); grandchildren, Rebecca Price, Hunter Price, Ellie Forrest, and Theo Miller; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. Dr. Miller attended Dupont and Patrick Copeland Elementary Schools; graduated from Hopewell High School in 1975; then the University of Richmond graduating with a BS in 1979; going on to attend the Medical College of Virginia graduating with his MD in 1983. He then served his residency at Blackstone Family Practice, completing the program in 1986. Dr. Miller dedicated 33 years to practicing medicine and served as the managing partner of the Hopewell and Colonial Heights Medical Centers. He served as Chief of Staff at John Randolph Medical Center and as a member of the John Randolph Board of Trustees. He was a proud mentor and role model for numerous VCU medical students. Dr. Miller was a proud Eagle Scout. He was an avid boater, spending the great majority of his summers on the James River. He was a past President of the Hopewell Saltwater Anglers Club and a member of the Hopewell Optimist and Tar Bay Gun Clubs. He was a collector of Diecast model cars, fountain pens, firearms, and Omega wrist watches. Above all, Bruce was a dedicated family man. He adored and respected his three children and their spouses. He lived for his Friday afternoon visits and playtime with his grandchildren. He reveled in the larger gatherings with extended family throughout the years. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. A private graveside service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Dr. Miller can be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 8090 Villa Park Drive, Henrico, VA 23228.
