Brenda Diane Mitchell

April 13, 1942 — June 1, 2025

Brenda Diane Mitchell lost her battle with Alzheimer's on June 1, 2025.

Brenda was born to Clarence and Beulah Mitchell on April 13, 1942. She was born & raised in Hopewell, VA. She spent the spring & fall for many years in New Smyrna Beach, FL with her older brother, Clarence "Mitch."

Brenda resided at Coquina Cay Assisted Living & Memory Care Center after a fall in January 2023 & onset of Alzheimer's. She was employed and retired from C & P Telephone, now Verizon/AT&T.

Brenda was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Beulah Mitchell; and her brothers, Michael Mitchell and Clarence Mitchell, Jr.

Brenda loved to shop and go to lunch, which she did often with Gloria or Carman. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, jigsaw puzzles, sudoku puzzles, reading, all things Willie Nelson, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Though Brenda never married, she probably would have married Alex Trebek or Willie Nelson had the opportunity arose.

She is survived by her best friend of 60 plus years, Gloria McDonald (Charlie), Ted and Joy Zeh, Joy Hoyle, Aaron "Chico" Chavez, Carman Smith, all of Virginia; niece, Heather Mitchell, of Freetown, MA; and many cousins. Her cousin, Pat Bradshaw & daughter, Tiffany of New Smyrna Beach, were supportive and visited often. Carl Fielder, a dear friend of Smyrna Beach, was always there for Brenda too. Words cannot express our gratitude for the excellent care Brenda received from the staff at Coquina Cay. Kathleen Blanchard, House Manager & Sabrina Santiago, the owner, kept us well informed and always available for our questions and concerns.

Special thanks to Crystal with Halifax Hospice who went far above & beyond with her care of Brenda and keeping us informed.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with Reverend Darrell Boggs of First Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will be private at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, Prince George, VA 23805.
