Bobby Ray Langley, 83, of Hopewell, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014. Born in Wilson County, North Carolina in 1931, the second oldest among a family of 12 children, he was the son of the late Naomi Rowe Langley and Frank Lester Langley. He was preceded in death by his brothers, J. T., Leatrice, Jim, Harold and Jerry Langley; sisters-in-law, Hilda Burke and Billie Langley; brother-in-law, Archie Worley. Bobby graduated from Rock Ridge High School in Wilson County, North Carolina. Mr. Langley worked for Hopewell Oil Company for 40 years, where he was the co-owner for 20 years and subsequently worked for Parker Oil Company for 3 years for a total of 43 years in the oil business. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Hopewell Moose Lodge for over 40 years and a member of the Moose Legion. Bobby loved traveling the world with his wife, Shirley who was his high school sweetheart, sharing their favorite trip to Hawaii. Bobby was a quiet man who showed his love through his actions, treated everyone well and was known as a friendly and helpful man. He loved going to the Outer Banks with his family members, where he fished and enjoyed steamed crabs. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Langley; three children, Terrie Edwards and her husband, Jon, Becky Spain and her husband, Wesley, and Todd Langley and his wife, Missy; grandchildren Ryan Spain and his wife, Deanna, Daniel Spain, Megan Haggerty and her husband, Rainer, Matthew, Rachel and Timothy Edwards, Taryn and Connor Langley; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Spain and Lucas Hill; 3 brothers, Jack Langley and his wife, Melda, Carold Langley, and Jarold Langley and his wife, Mary Sue; 3 sisters, Dorothy Pate and her husband, John, Betty Jean Pope and her husband, Ralph and Ann Ripsom and her husband, Frank; close sisters-in-law, Juanita Langley, Jean Clements, Inez Etheridge, and Linda Worley; brother–in-law, Ray Burke; and many other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral service, led by Pastor Steve Vornov, of Wesley United Methodist Church, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2014 also at the funeral home.
