Bobby Joe Gill

Apr 8, 1961 — Apr 17, 2026

Bobby Joe Gill, 65, of Covington, VA, and formerly of Prince George, VA, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence on April 17, 2026. Born in White Sulphur Springs, WV on April 8, 1961, Bobby spent the majority of his life in the Prince George and Hopewell area.

For nearly 40 years, Bobby worked as a painting contractor throughout the Tri-Cities area, including an extensive career at Fort Lee. He was a man who took pride in a job well done, working steadily until his retirement in 2018. Bobby's most beautiful picture was not painted with a brush; it was the unwavering dedication he showed as a husband, the fierce love he had for his daughters, and the helping hand he extended to anyone in need. Bobby had an unconditional love for his family and nowhere was this more evident than in his extraordinary devotion to his wife, Kimberly, a love matched only by the unwavering bond he shared with his beloved daughters and grandchildren.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Julian Gill and Hilda Grace Bates; his beloved wife, Kimberly; his twin brother, Billy Gill; and his brother, Jaime. He was also preceded by his grandsons, Kody Isaiah Osborne and Zane Thomas Hughes; his son-in-law, Earle Osborne; his brother-in-law, Sean Voiles; his mother-in-law, Judy Hassell; and his nephews, Christopher Pillow and Cody Smith.

Left to cherish Bobby's memory are his four daughters, Patricia Davis and husband, Leroy, of LaPLata, MD, Nicole Hassell-Lane and her husband, Robert, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Kayla Gill, of Hopewell, VA, and Lydia Ward and her husband, Devin, of Georgia; his many grandchildren, Andrew, Alyssa, Ali, and Ashlynn Davis, Nadiya Hassell, Mason Hassell, and Jackson Lane, Cannon, Gracie, and Abigail Anderson, and Colton and Wilder Ward; brother, Arlen Bates; and many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Though we deeply mourn his passing, Bobby's daughters ask that you find peace in the image of him arriving at Heaven's 'Fort B****, VA, reunited with the loved ones who were waiting at the gates when God called him home. A celebration of life for Bobby will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son on Saturday, May 2, 2026. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 1, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
