Betty Grammer Woodard, 91, of Raleigh, NC, formerly of Hopewell, VA passed away on October 12, 2014. Born in Hopewell, VA she was the daughter of the late Andrew Lee and Effie Omega Grammer; and was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Blythe Woodard, Sr.; one brother, Harvey Lee Grammer; and a sister, Katy Mae Clayton. During Betty’s younger years, she enjoyed bowling with her sisters and friends on several bowling leagues in Hopewell, she worked for Tubize for many years and Appomattox Cleaners before retirement to become a homemaker. She enjoyed visiting her home church as a member of First Congregational Christian Church where she served as a Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter and great-granddaughter. Mrs. Woodard is survived by her son, Charles Blythe Woodard, Jr. and his wife, Sybil; one granddaughter, Michelle Woodard Harrison and her husband, Nick; a great-granddaughter, Nicole Lynn Harrison; one sister, Helen Maitland; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014 in Bermuda Memorial Park, Chester, VA.
