Hopewell, Va. -- Betty L. Patrick, 82, of Hopewell, widow of Roy D. Patrick, Lt. Col. USAF (Ret.), passed away September 5, at 11:36 a.m. following an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Merrill and Beatrice Willis of Waterloo, Ohio. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Kitts of Waterloo, Ohio, a daughter, Debra E. Thompson of Petersburg, Virginia, and a grandson, Jason Patrick Thompson of Petersburg, Virginia. She is survived by her daughters, Rhonda K. Patrick of Hopewell, Virginia, Karen P. Knutsen of Halden, Norway, Kimberly D. Bright of Prince George, Virginia, her sons, Mark S. Patrick, Cmdr. USN (Ret.) of Lorton, Virginia, and Bryan K. Patrick of Springfield, Virginia; a brother, Cleeland (Bud) Willis of Gallipolis, Ohio; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.Betty was the loving wife to her husband Roy, supporting him and raising their six children as he served in the U.S. Air Force for 23 years, in eight states and five foreign countries. Following Roy’s retirement from the Chesterfield, Virginia Fire Department in 1993, Betty moved with Roy to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, where they enjoyed retirement in the community, including active membership in the Fairfield Glade Baptist Church. Following Roy’s death, Betty returned to Hopewell, Virginia, to be near family and friends.She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, March of Dimes, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, church nurseries at all locations ever lived including First Baptist Church, Hopewell, Virginia.A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015 11:00am at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Hopewell, Virginia. The family will receive friends Friday, September 11, 2015 from 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home Interment will be private.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideon International or First Baptist Church, Hopewell, Virginia.
