Betty Thompson Orlando, 84, of Hopewell, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Herbert L. Sr. and Pansy Burnett Thompson. She was preceded by her brothers, Otis C. Thompson, Herbert L. Thompson, Jr.; sisters, Charlotte Casey, Genell Estes, Evelyn Arvin and Novella Chavis. Betty retired from Fort Lee as a clerk stenographer after 31 years of service. She was an avid Bingo and card player and was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Hopewell. Mrs. Orlando was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her devoted husband, Joseph Orlando; daughter, Leslie M. Orlando; son, Joseph J. Orlando, Jr. and wife, Linda; grandchildren, Joseph J. Orlando, III, and Zachary D. Orlando; special friend, Frances Oliver; numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service, on Monday, March 18, 2013. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 502 W. Broadway, Hopewell, Va., on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, with Dr. Michael Browder, officiating. Interment will follow in Appomattox Cemetery.
