1SG. Bernard Levi Carter, 81, of Petersburg, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Arthur Levi and Alice Webster Carter. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Mr. Carter was a veteran in the Vietnam War and retired after 26 years of dedicated service in the Army Signal Corp. He was a member of the American Legion Post #2 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #47 in Petersburg, Virginia. He is survived by his loving wife, Rowena Carter; dear friends, Gene Fistler and his wife, Cindy and family; and his friendly companion Tangy. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Friday June 7, 2013 at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Memorial Chapel on Fort Lee Military Base. Interment will follow at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery with Military Honors.
