Belle Walker Smith, 76, of Hopewell passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Born in Hopewell, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Alexander “Mack” Walker, Sr. and Katherine Daniel Walker and was preceded in death by her husband, James D. “JD” Smith; daughter, Gaye Smith and grandson, Cody Smith. Belle worked for the Hopewell Public School System as a manager in the food service for 22 years. She was a past member of Parents Without Partners, America School Food Service Association and Prince George Woman’s Club. Belle was an avid Nascar fan of Dale Earnhardt, Jr., loved reading, cooking, baking, sewing, dancing and especially loved her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children; Joanne S. Rutledge and her husband, Bill, James “Jamey” D. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Margie, Joy S. Fenderson and her husband, Tim; grandchildren, Ethan Rutledge, Katie Fenderson, Justin Messer, Michael Rieves; great-grandson, Vance Lewis; brother, Alex Walker; several cousins; 2 special cousins, Marie Perry and Gail Jarrett. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2015, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Appomattox Cemetery. Condolences may be registered at
