Austin Francis Xavier Bishop

Austin Francis Xavier Bishop, of Chester, died February 2, 2026 from injuries sustained in a fall on the ice. He was born November 14, 1939 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Austin Arthur Bishop and Adelaide Marie Delery Bishop.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dale Owen Bishop, and his beloved daughter Loraine Delery Bishop; his brothers, Richard H. Bishop (Jan), Lawrence H. Bishop (Charlotte), and many splendid nieces and nephews. He mourned the recent loss of his sister Lucille Marie Bishop.

A graduate of Highland Springs High School, Class of 1958, a class he loved, he continued his education at Randolph-Macon College, BS in math 1962, and the University of Utah, MS in math, 1964.

He taught at Randolph-Macon College for 35 years, retiring in 1999.

He was a kind and generous man of deep integrity who didn't take much in life very seriously. He liked to keep in touch with loved ones, and he lived for and adored his many wonderful dogs: Flirt, Julie and Taylor, especially.
