Arthur Leonard Bishop

Arthur Leonard "Lynn" Bishop, 76, of Chesterfield, was called home by the Lord on October 31, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Ardelle Bishop; and his brothers, Charles and Jimmy. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sue Bishop; three sons, Chris Bishop, Chris Stanley, and Bryan Stanley; daughter-in-law, Shannon Stanley; two grandchildren, Aiden and Kaitlin Stanley; sister-in-law, Virgie Collins; brother-in-law, Joe Carroll; sister, Lois Lee Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.

Arthur served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Following his military service, he served in law enforcement for Chesterfield County for 35 years, first as an officer with the Police Department, then as a deputy with the Sheriff's Office, as well as a firing range instructor. He was an EMT with the Bensley Junior Rescue Squad and the Bensley-Bermuda Volunteer Rescue Squad for 22 years, and a volunteer firefighter with the Chesterfield Fire Department - primarily with Firehouse 1 in Chester, Virginia - for a little less than 10 years.

During his time with the Bensley Junior Rescue Squad, he began teaching first aid for the Red Cross. He also taught CPR for the American Heart Association. Arthur started teaching Defensive Driving Class through the National Safety Council in 1976, culminating in owning and operating Defensive Driving School of Virginia LLC from June 2006 to September 2012. He was a NASCAR inspector at Southside Speedway from 1984 to 1989.

As amazing as Arthur's life of service was, he was also a beloved "grandaddy," dad, and husband. Arthur was a friend; he was a teacher; and he had a smile for everyone, as many can tell you, probably even a joke. He was a light, and he will be missed tremendously and dearly.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23831 (near Route 10 & Route 1). The family will receive friends the day prior, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Road, Chester, VA 23831 (also near Route 10 & Route 1).
