Armeta Rosella King Davis

January 14, 1935 — November 16, 2012

Armeta Rosella King Davis, 77, (January 14, 1935 - November 16, 2012) was born in a little log cabin on a majestic hilltop in the southwest corner of Virginia, Armeta was always proud of her heritage believing it left her very grounded in the important things in life. Her parents, George E. King and Nora Victoria Smith, met and eloped soon after meeting. When her father and mother married, he felled the trees and built the cabin for their future life together. Seven children were born there with Armeta being the youngest. Siblings Lewis, Margaret, Kathleen, Gladys, George, Beatrice and Armeta were a close family and always there to support one another. Armeta recalled playing at her grandparents beautiful big home at the foot of the hill by the river, crossing over the swinging bridge, and all the visiting neighbors in their rural community. She remembered as a young child listening quietly after bedtime and enjoying the laughter from the kitchen when her mother entertained with taffy pulls and card parties. Her father died when Armeta was 1 ½ years old and she was exposed to her mother’s strength in bringing up and keeping the family together. This later molded Armeta into being a very strong woman her entire life. The family moved several times during her elementary school years, eventually moving to Hopewell, Virginia. Armeta met her husband, Frank Davis, in high school and they were married in 1955. They moved to Miami, Florida in 1956 where they raised their four children: Victoria, Kevin, Frank Jr., and Jennifer. Blessed with twins, Armeta joined the Mothers of Twins Organization when they were born and remained active not only for their good works in education and research but because of the amazing, loyal, and long-term friendships over the years. In 1980, she served as the first president of the newly formed Florida Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs, Inc. Frank and Armeta moved to Winter Park, Florida in 1988 when Frank retired from Eastern Air Lines. They enjoyed 51 ½ years of married life until his death in 2006. She is survived by three children, Victoria Willoughby, Frank Davis, Jr. and his wife, Stefani, and Jennifer Frantz and her husband, Billy. Her first son, Kevin Davis, preceded her in death in 1995. She is also survived by two beautiful little granddaughters, Morgan Rose and Brooke Elisabeth Davis; step-granddaughter, Tiffany Frantz; brother, George King; brothers-in-law, Floyd Davis and his wife, Lois, Harrison Hammonds; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was blessed with wonderful friends all over the country who were strongly supportive during her last year battling cancer. All her life, it seems her leadership qualities were evident to those around her. She graduated third academically in her class and still attended the fun annual reunions. She was called for jury duty soon after she relocated to Central Florida and was selected to serve on the Grand Jury for six months as Foreman. She always considered a new venture as a welcome challenge. She was particularly proud of serving in Miami as an Elder (Clerk of Session) in the Presbyterian Church PCA. Armeta is a member of Winter Park Presbyterian Church. A memorial service celebrating her life was held at Collison Family Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 20th, Rev. Dr. Timothy Rogers-Martin, of Winter Park Presbyterian Church officiated. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with a visitation to be held one hour prior. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. Reverend Steve King (nephew) will officiate at the service in Virginia. Condolences may be registered online at www.jtmorriss.com .
