Annette Griffis Mincey, 84, of Lake Gaston, NC, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Born in Berrien County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Lessie Samuel and Mamie Asbell Griffis; and was also preceded in death by six siblings, Hugh Griffis, Robert Griffis, Marjorie Johnson, Allene Touchton, L.S. Griffis, Jr., and Henry Griffis. Raised in South Georgia and Florida, Annette was a lifelong avid learner and was valedictorian of her high school class in Doerun, Georgia. She went on to graduate with honors from Berry College in Rome, Georgia, where she met her loving husband, Larry. Annette began her career as a teacher in Georgia public schools teaching high school business classes. She spent several years as a stay-at-home mother while her children were young and the family relocated to Ireland and then Virginia. She returned to school later in life to remake herself as a systems analyst, completing her career in various roles with Tultex Corporation in Martinsville, Virginia, and with Keane Federal Systems. In addition to reading and learning, Annette enjoyed working in the yard alongside Larry and taking many cross-country trips in their RV. She excelled at creative endeavors, including sewing, needlework, cooking, and ceramics. She was an active church member throughout her life, serving as a youth group leader and treasurer for the church pre-school. She also volunteered for the Red Cross to provide transportation to medical appointments for those in need. Above all, Annette cherished time with her family, instilling in them a legacy of prioritizing family connections and meaningful time together. Mrs. Mincey is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Larry Mincey; three children, Kecia Greene and husband, Chris, Paul Mincey and wife, Susie, and Alicia LeSage and husband, Keith; six grandchildren, Matthew Greene and wife, Katie, Michael Greene and wife, Ashley, Madison Greene, Jack Mincey, Luke Mincey, and Levi Mincey; two step-granddaughters, Camille LeSage and husband, Owen Davis and Genevieve Borah and husband, Austin; two great-grandchildren, Blakely Greene and Lane Greene (Matthew and Katie); a great-grandchild on the way (Michael and Ashley); two siblings, Elton Griffis and Carolyn Ricks; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Rosemary Baptist Church, 936 Jackson St., Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870. The family will receive friends starting at 1:00 p.m., at the church. An interment ceremony will be held in Waycross, Georgia, on a later date.
