Anne Kinsey Dinan

Anne Kinsey Dinan passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the age of 79 from complications related to Alzheimer's Disease.

Born in Richmond, Virginia, on September 4, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Thorogood and Nancy Alden Strong Kinsey of Petersburg, Virginia. Anne cherished growing up in Petersburg and often told stories of the fun she had playing golf, riding bikes, and building pine tag forts in the woods with her many friends. She attended high school at The Holton Arms School in Washington, DC, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, Phi Beta Kappa, from Sweet Briar College.

It was a mutual love of art that led to an introduction to Terrance Richard Dinan, a US Army Lieutenant from NYC attending Officer Candidate School at Fort Lee in Prince George County, VA. Terry was soon sent to Vietnam, and after a couple of years of exchanging letters and audio tapes, they were married at Petersburg's Christ & Grace Episcopal Church in 1969.

Anne spent the next 50+ years in NYC, raising her children with Terry, playing tennis and bridge with friends, working (most recently at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLC), caring for her grandchildren, and completing countless incredible creative projects. Anne loved illustrating children's books (and a book that helped save Sweet Briar!), sewing, drawing, painting, and crafting unparalleled dollhouse miniatures. The Christmas ornaments that she made and gave to family and friends each year serve as a reminder of her boundless creativity and the importance of holding beautiful memories close to your heart.

Anne spent her last years at the Petersburg Home for Ladies, where she was surrounded by love and care. Her family's gratitude for everyone at PHL and for the staff of At Home Care Hospice of Colonial Heights cannot be expressed in words.

Anne was brave, curious, and able to make everyone she met feel at home. Her kindness, humor, passion for learning, and dedication to her family—whom she always put above all else—will be greatly missed. She leaves behind her husband, Terrance Richard Dinan; daughters, Kinsey Alden Dinan and Ashley Macdonnald Dinan; grandchildren, Evelyn Ana Pineiro and Sebastian Strong Pineiro (who have inherited their grandmother's creativity); son-in-law, Bobby Ederra Pineiro; daughter-in-law, Laura Jane Forbes; sisters, Susan Strong Kinsey and Kitty Kinsey Gwaltey; as well as her brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, and many loving nieces and nephews and their families.

A graveside service for Anne will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Blandford Cemetery, followed by a reception.
