Alyssa Trinity Williams

Jul 22, 2007 — Oct 26, 2026

Some people have a best friend. Alyssa Trinity Williams had a way of being everyone's best friend. She possessed a beautiful gift for making people feel welcomed, included, and genuinely loved. Her kindness was effortless, her heart was generous, and her life was filled with friendships that crossed generations and communities. To know Alyssa was to know someone who truly loved people.

Alyssa Trinity Williams of Chester, Virginia, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2026, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of faith, friendship, joy, and service.

Affectionately known as "Sissy" to her family, Alyssa was bright, creative, wonderfully silly, and full of life. She had an innocence and sweetness about her that made her especially endearing. Her family often laughed at how she could never hide what she was thinking or feeling; it was always written all over her face! And then there was her laugh. Alyssa had an infectious, unmistakable laugh that was entirely her own. If you heard it, you knew it was Sissy. She could make her family laugh simply by being herself.

As much as Alyssa loved her many friends, her family held an especially treasured place in her heart. The Williams family often had a saying: "We are our favorite people to be around." And Alyssa truly lived that out. She delighted in the ordinary moments of being together, whether it was a trip to Hobby Lobby with her mom, dancing with her brother Anthony, long phone calls with her sister Ayanna, or staying up late with her dad. She loved gathering with her grandma, cousins, and spending time with her aunts and uncles. Family gatherings, spontaneous adventures, shared laughter, and simply being in each other's company were among her greatest joys.

Alyssa was also extraordinarily resourceful. Her family often joked that if they were ever stranded on a deserted island, Alyssa was the one they would want with them because she would surely figure out how to get everyone home. She could make, fix, build, or create just about anything. Whether assembling complicated IKEA furniture, finding a clever solution to a household problem, or transforming something ordinary into something beautiful, Alyssa had a gift for figuring things out. She was the family's artist, problem-solver, decorator, and baker. From cakes to cookies and everything in between, she loved to bake and was frequently called upon to make something special. Of course, she enjoyed eating her creations just as much as making them!

Alyssa also loved helping others feel beautiful. Friends regularly turned to Sissy for help styling their hair, putting together outfits, or getting ready for special occasions. And she had a style all her own. She absolutely adored bows. She wore them in her hair, added them to her clothes, made them herself, and even topped her Christmas tree with one. At Chick-fil-A, where she genuinely loved working, she became affectionately known as "the girl with the bow." Her dedication and leadership were recognized through a Chick-fil-A scholarship, and she also participated in the Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy.

Alyssa found delight in life's simple pleasures. She loved the color blue, comfortable clothes, her enormous collection of stuffed animals and dolls, and spending time with her friends, often doing nothing more than laughing and being silly together. She loved the beach, being in the water, and absolutely anything involving ice cream. While attending James Madison University, she discovered Smiley's Ice Cream, which quickly became a favorite.

One of Alyssa's greatest loves was swimming. Over the years, she participated on swim teams at Sherwood Hills Swim Club, the YMCA, and SwimRVA. But her love for the water extended far beyond her own experiences as a swimmer. At Chesterfield Recreation Association, she spent time serving as a coach-in-training and junior swim coach, helping countless young children learn to swim, develop confidence, and discover the joy of being in the water.

In fact, children seemed naturally drawn to Alyssa wherever she went. Some of her family's sweetest memories are of the many hours she spent alongside her dad, Gene, at football and baseball games at Wells Athletic Association. From the time Alyssa was pretty young, she could often be found watching over everyone's children at the ballfields. She became the unofficial, and sometimes official, kid watcher, happily caring for little ones while spending time with her dad. Long before she dreamed of becoming a pediatric nurse, Alyssa was already demonstrating the heart of someone called to care for others.

Alyssa had a remarkable heart for serving, and she began living that out from a very young age. At just 11 years old, she began traveling to Belize on mission trips with Destiny Church and Youth With A Mission (YWAM). Over multiple trips, the YWAM base became a place she dearly loved, filled with meaningful friendships, unforgettable adventures, and treasured memories. Her passion for service continued through seven years with American Heritage Girls, where she participated in numerous community service projects and events.

Her faith in Jesus was the most important part of who she was. Alyssa grew up at Destiny Church, where she began attending when she was just two years old. Over the years, she poured her heart into serving her church family, loving her pastors, and particularly serving Destiny's children. She served faithfully on the media team and as a teacher and small group leader in children's ministry. She also volunteered with the Home Educators Association of Virginia's Vacation Bible School and served as a junior camp counselor at Redemption Ministries camps. Whether teaching a child, caring for little ones, serving behind the scenes, or traveling across the world, Alyssa continually found ways to give of herself.

Homeschooled throughout her childhood, Alyssa participated in both Classical Conversations and Bridge Academy homeschool cooperatives. She loved the freedom and creativity of homeschooling and would sometimes jokingly ask, "Why would anyone want to go to school anyway?" She was an intelligent and capable student, but she was also a little artist at heart. During her younger years, her mom would catch her painting, drawing, creating, and making slime, which could easily become far more interesting than the schoolwork waiting to be finished! She also liked to joke that the natural next step for a homeschooler was to work at Chick-fil-A; a dream she eventually got to fulfill. During her high school years, she also participated in the United States Air Force Civil Air Patrol, developing leadership skills and embracing new challenges.

One of Alyssa's proudest moments was being accepted to James Madison University, her dream school. She was thrilled to become a Duke and eagerly embraced college life, building friendships and becoming actively involved in campus communities, including Every Nation Campus (ENC), Latinx Student Alliance (LSA), The Center for Multicultural Student Services (CMSS), and the MOSAIC program. As a nursing student, Alyssa was pursuing a future that reflected the heart she had already demonstrated throughout her life. She dreamed of becoming a pediatric nurse, combining her love for children with her deep desire to help people. Caring for others was never simply a career aspiration for Alyssa. It was already the way she lived.

Alyssa leaves behind her loving parents, Gene Anthony and Onika Rashida Williams; her sister, Ayanna Tiara Williams; her brother, Anthony Troy Williams; her paternal grandmother, Virgie A. Williams; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Weymouth A. Williams; and maternal grandparents, Eddie L. Holden and Shirley E. Holden.

Above all, Alyssa loved Jesus. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now in His presence, and they rejoice in the beautiful life she lived. Though her time on earth was far shorter than anyone could have imagined, the impact of her life cannot be measured in years. It lives on in the children she taught, the people she served, the friendships she nurtured, and the countless hearts she touched.

In just nineteen years, Alyssa lived a life overflowing with love, generosity, creativity, adventure, and joy. She gave so much of herself to others, yet somehow always seemed to have more love to give.

Alyssa didn't simply tell people they were loved. She showed them.

And perhaps that is why so many people called her their best friend.

She made everyone feel like they mattered.

Because to Alyssa, they truly did.
