Alice Sculthorpe Norwood

March 19, 1940 — May 29, 2026

Alice Sculthorpe Norwood, 86, went to be with Jesus on May 29, 2026. She was born on March 19, 1940, on a tobacco farm in Union Level, Virginia. She was the only daughter of Sam and Virginia Sculthorpe. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Guy LeRoy Norwood. She is survived by her daughters, LaVerne (Joel) Everhart and Kim (Mark) Kelly; grandchildren, Mathew Everhart (Jana McClendon), Amanda Everhart (Michael Leeman), and Joshua (Jordyn) Kelly; along with four great-grandchildren, Benton Everhart, Judson Leeman, Jaxx Leeman, and Scout Kelly.

Mrs. Norwood was a woman who loved Jesus and her family. She found pure joy in caring for others. Her hands were rarely still. She was an extraordinary cook whose kitchen was the heart of the home. Whether she was cooking, sewing, crocheting, quilting or tending a garden, the flowerbeds or yard, every project was a labor of love. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband to many places across the United States. She also enjoyed model trains, coffee, wrestling, and southern gospel music.

She taught us the value of a welcoming home, a loving heart, and patience to create something beautiful by hand. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, caretaker, and family matriarch.

A funeral service for Mrs. Norwood, conducted by Reverend Jim Evans, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Dementia Society of America.
