Albert James Smithers Jr.

Albert James Smithers, Jr., 88, of Petersburg, passed away on May 12, 2013. He was the son of the late Albert J. Sr. and Carolyn Wright Smithers. Mr. Smithers was a United States Army Veteran, and worked for many years at Southside Regional Medical Center in the maintenance department. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Genevieve Smithers; a son, Charles Smithers of NY; three step-daughters, Paula St. Claire of WVA, Darlene Heiser and husband, Ronald of TX, Kathryn McEwen of Petersburg; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ione Lowder of Hopewell; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA.
