Abner Winn Butterworth, Jr., 60, of Prince George, Va. unexpectedly departed this life on November 8, 2013. The son of the late Abner Winn Sr. and Audrey Grace Butterworth, Winn was a native of Hopewell, Va. and raised in Petersburg, Va.
After beginning his career as a sales representative for a major mattress manufacturer, Winn quickly learned he could produce a better product himself. He ventured out on his own and founded Custom Comfort by Winn in 1989. Winn served as president since its founding and took the utmost pride in building the company from the ground up. Equally important to his entrepreneurial dedication was his passion for politics and his tireless devotion to the Republican Party.
An avid outdoorsman, Winn found true fulfillment both captaining his boat on countless offshore fishing adventures and traversing the woods in search of wild game. By his side through all of life’s adventures has been his loving wife of 21 years, Cindy. In addition to his wife and mother, Winn also leaves behind a sister, Laurie Passopulo (Kirk) daughter, Carman Faison (Justin), a grandson, Benjamin Grady Faison and last, but not least, his beloved Boston Terriers Roscoe and Butter Bean. A host of friends, both young and old, complete Winn’s “family” and will continue to perpetuate his memory, thanks to the numerous stories that will be laughed over for years to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (
www.PanCan.org
) in memory of Winn’s father or The Billfish Foundation (
www.billfish.org
). The family will receive those wishing to celebrate Winn’s life on Wednesday November 13th from 4:00-6:00pm at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss Funeral Home. Per Winn’s wishes, his interment will be private.
