Jenny Irvine Wilhelm

Jenny Ireland Irvine Wilhelm, 81, of Ashland, Virginia, departed this life on Saturday, January 22, 2022. Born in Clifton Forge, Virginia, she attended Central High School and graduated from the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway Hospital School of Nursing. Jenny donned her quintessential nurse's cap and began her career in 1962 as a registered nurse, first as an operating room nurse and then with the C&O Railroad, caring for and transferring patients on routes from Richmond to Charleston, West Virginia. She then worked for almost 40 years as a cardiac nurse with Cardiovascular Associates of Virginia, retiring in 2009. "Nurse Jenny" was well-loved by patients, her colleagues, dear friends and family. She was known for her sweet tea and mac 'n cheese, which she enjoyed cooking for friends and family at a moment's notice, and she treasured family vacations at Myrtle Beach. "Grandma," as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, enjoyed watching them participate in their activities including golf, dance, theater, soccer and gymnastics. She was also an avid reader and loved going to the movies and shopping. She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 60 years, Preston A. Wilhelm Sr.; daughter, Samantha Wilhelm Krishnamurthy (Kiran Krishnamurthy); son, Preston A. Wilhelm II (Sara Millard); grandchildren, Miles Krishnamurthy, Kira Krishnamurthy, Lucy Wilhelm and P.J. Wilhelm; sister, Myrna Cash; brothers, Wayne Irvine (Carolyn) and Jerry Irvine (Virginia); sister-in-law, Millie Golden; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, William Wilson Irvine Sr.; mother, Madge Gardner Irvine; and brother, William Wilson Irvine, Jr. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Hanover Arts and Activities Center, 500 South Center Street, Ashland, VA 23005.
