    James Long McMillen, Jr.

    February 24, 1942 - May 12, 2022

    James Long McMillen, Jr., 80, of Hopewell, VA, departed this life on May 12, 2022. Born in Glenville, WV and raised in Masontown, WV, he was the son of the late James Long and Mildred Virginia Langford McMillen. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and devoted his time to serving in his church and community. After graduating from Masontown (WV) High School and attending West Virginia University, Jim moved to Hopewell, VA in 1962 to work for the Firestone Company, where he was employed for 22 years. His second career was as a Financial Administrator for Woodlawn Baptist Church (Hopewell, VA) where he was employed for 44 years. Throughout those years, he volunteered as youth basketball coach, Sunday School teacher, member of several church committees, member of the Hopewell Recreation Department, member of Gideons International, and financial advisor to the Petersburg Baptist Association. He is survived by his wife, Lea Titchenell McMillen; son, Randy McMillen and his wife, Athena, of Roanoke, VA; son, Rob McMillen and his wife, Margaret, of Stafford, VA; son, Jeff McMillen and his wife, Jan, of Prince George, VA; grandchildren, Cezar & Emily Carvalhaes, Molly McMillen, Elizabeth McMillen, Chris McMillen, Thomas McMillen, Sara Martin, Sam & Jessa McMillen, Josh & Mary Lee, and Tyler & Kristin Byrd; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Christie L. Kerr; two aunts, Erma Smith and Mary Ittner; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Woodlawn Baptist Church (3512 Virginia Street, Hopewell, VA 23860) to celebrate his life and his faith. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 am to 10:50 am at the church. Interment will occur at a later date. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.
