    James Elwood Higgins, Sr.

    October 16, 1942 - January 19, 2022

    James Elwood Higgins, Sr., 79, of Colonial Heights, VA passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Born in Lexington, VA he was the son of the late Woodrow Emory and Mildred Radar Higgins; and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Ramsey Higgins; and a brother, Emory Radar Higgins. Mr. Higgins was a United States Army veteran and was the founder of James E. Higgins & Son Contractor, Inc. in Chester. He retired from his business in 2011 after 35 successful years in business. He was a member of Victory Tabernacle Church of God in Richmond, and was also a member of Gun Rights, The Home Builders Association of Southside Virginia, the Cardinal Golf Course and the Colonial Heights Senior Golf Association. Mr. Higgins was an avid golfer and fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Selva B. Higgins; a son, James "Jamie" Elwood Higgins, Jr. and wife, Whitney; a step-son, Russ Simpson and wife, Kathy; one step-daughter, Yvonne Arnold and husband, Mark; two grandchildren, Zachary and Katie Higgins; seven step-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Higgins and wife, Peggy; three sisters, Nancy Clark and husband, David, Maureen Hill and Mary Lee Patterson; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to CUFI, Christian United for Israel, in memory of James E.
