October 28, 1930 - January 30, 2022
For 91 years, Harriett C. Moore spent her days making others smile. Perhaps it was a well-timed joke, a friendly greeting or an old tune played on the piano. Until He called her home last Sunday, January 30th, God gifted us with her faith, wisdom and sense of humor. She was known as Harriett, Momma, Mrs. Moore, but to all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even a great-great-grandchild, she was "Memommy." Born October 28, 1930, Harriett was a life-long resident of the Petersburg area, one of nine children. She was married to the love of her life, Ralph, for 49 years until God called him home in 1996. Since her passing, testimonies have been pouring in regarding her impact on all who knew her. Her family will miss her most of all - those who saw her as she was - as perfectly flawed as she was wonderfully entertaining. So many of us jumped at her pinch followed by, "Bless your little heart." We sometimes groused at her opinions - not always correct, but never in doubt. We sang around her console piano and played cards all hours of the night. We laughed, we cried, we fought, we embraced, but above all, we loved. She shared with us her very soul - and kept back none for herself. We are where we are because of the grace of God and the influence of Harriet Moore. Left here to cherish her memories are her daughters, Ann 'Barty' (Aubrey) Williams and Terry Davis; her sister, Jean Wolfrey; four grandchildren, Mandy (Bob) Blankenship, Kandy Cornell, Andy (Crystal) Davis and Randi Davis; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Our mourning is tempered by the joy of knowing where she is - in Heaven, basking in the presence of our Saviour and reuniting with so many who have gone before. We may be sad, but more than that, we are truly happy for what she must be experiencing, due in full to the wonderful grace of Jesus. She is where she is because of Him, and that same hope confirms in our hearts that we will see her again. The family will welcome friends from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, with the service to follow. As a long-time member of Grace Baptist Church, her pastor, Raleigh Nunnally, will officiate her homegoing service. Her body will then be interred next to that of her husband at Southlawn Memorial Park in South Prince George, VA. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.
