    George Albert Burton, Sr.

    May 26, 1929 - April 3, 2022

    George Albert Burton, 92, of Hopewell, VA, died Sunday, April 3, 2022 at his home away from home, The Outer Banks, in the presence of his family. He was the son of the late Abner G. and Vernell F. Burton, of Hopewell. George was preceded in death by his son, George A. Burton, Jr., and is survived by his wife of 73 years, Evelyn D Burton; his two daughters, Susan L. Clarke (Jake) , and Cynthia B. Lantz, both of Chester; daughter-in-law, Judy Schaffer, of Newport News; 6 grandchildren, Glenn A. Burton (Kristen), Paul A. Burton (Jennifer), Joshua T. Douglewicz (Allison), Jennifer L. Cornicello (Chris), Merissa J. Costello (Miles), Megean J. Foord (Obe): 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Franklin Burton (Irene) and Wortha Burton. George served at a young age in the United States National Guard, and after marriage to his beloved "Bride," became a Master Electrician as his life career trade. He was a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge, Dupont #289, a Past Governor of Hopewell Moose Lodge #1472, and enjoyed many things in life, but mainly spending time with his family, friends, the occasional card games, and horse race. He was no stranger to anyone. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. All who knew him loved his great charm and personality. A memorial visitation and service will be held at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Hopewell Chapel on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 10:00 AM, and the life honoring service will follow at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in memory of George A. Burton to the local American Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Rd., Suite 130, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
