Catherine Ann Chase

Catherine Ann Chase, 71, of Chester passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022, surrounded by family. Cathy was born November 12, 1960 in Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her mother, Beatrice Chase; father, Robert Chase; and brothers, Jeffrey and Dale. Cathy is survived by her brother, William Chase and his wife, Amy; and their children, Alexander and Olivia; and Jeffrey's wife, Lynn; and their children, Melissa Peterson and her husband, Pehr; and their children, Odyn, Gunnar, Soren, and Signe; Matthew Chase and his wife, Lara; and their children, Brody, Bryn and TJ. Cathy graduated from Atlantic Christian College with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and Teaching in 1973. She then began her professional career as an elementary teacher, in Kenbridge, VA. Following that, she worked as a manufacturer's representative for a sewing notions & supplies company. The Chase Family has proudly owned and operated The Busy Bea, a quilting store in Chester, VA, since 1976, where Cathy began working part time. Cathy's love for quilting, The Busy Bea, and the community grew. Upon her parents' passing, Cathy took over ownership and operation of the store, teaching craft and quilting classes to thousands of people. She was also a proud member of Chester Methodist Church and worked hard to give back to her community everyday through donations, classes, and unwavering kindness. The family will gather privately at this time with hopes to host a larger memorial in weeks to come to further celebrate Cathy's life.
