November 29, 1941 - October 15, 2021
Boyd David Cave, Jr., of Midlothian, VA, passed away Friday, October 15, 2021 at age 79. Boyd was a boisterous man who loved life, his wife, children, and grandchildren fiercely. Though he was fully vaccinated, he was stricken with breakthrough COVID. He had many opinions and would happily inform you of them whether you asked him to or not. Not all of them were universal, but he always liked his ideas better. He never met a story he couldn’t make just a little bigger or better in his epic tales. One could always find him in a crowded room by following the sounds of his booming laugh. He was a great salesman, but not good with money, since he kept giving it away to those he felt needed it more. If he loved you, you knew it - he was as free with his affection as he was with his funds. He treasured spending time with kids, especially the younger ones, and enjoyed being their biggest cheerleader. No matter how small the feat, he would throw his hands in the air and yell “YAY!” (loudly). He never missed an opportunity to stop and gush over a baby in public. Recently, he served as a lunch buddy at J B Watkins Elementary as often as possible, and regularly donated money for books to the school. He adored being around all children and looked forward to his visits every week. Encouraging kids to read, and reading to them, was especially important to him. In previous years, he loved being a guest reader at King Springs Elementary in Smyrna, GA, where the students thought he was Dr. Seuss. Boyd loved ice cream, the Texas Longhorns, his wife's cooking, and music recorded between 1955-1959: “the finest music that ever was.” Predeceased by his parents, Boyd D. and Minnie Cecil Cave, he is survived by his wife, Renny; daughters, Sarah, Muffy, Caroline; son-in-law, Matt; and grandchildren, Maggie, Max, and Kayla, who will keep his legacy alive by living unapologetically and loudly in their own ways. He is also survived by his brother and best friend, Bill Cave (Nancy); his sister, Libby Boyd (Mark); and his nieces and nephews. The family is being served by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Lakotachildren.org. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.
