Bobby Ray Cross, 84, of Hopewell, Virginia went to be with the Lord following his declining health. Born in Salisbury, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Thomas and Katie Roberts Cross. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Helen Chiarky Cross; two daughters, Cheri C. O’Neill and her husband, Thomas, and Susan H. Cross; granddaughter, Tiffany O. Spede and her husband, Michael; grandson, Derek A. O’Neill; and a great-granddaughter, Emma S. Spede. In his younger years, he was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. He retired from A.H. Robbins as an analyst. He held many jobs at his church to include Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and was a member of numerous committees. In his later years, he was a volunteer for the John Randolph Auxiliary. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the funeral home with the Rev. Bob Lane and Rev. Sally Good officiating. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Cox Rd.
